Indulgent Festive Buffet at Colony

📷

Colony at The Ritz Carlton Millennia Singapore offers one of the finest buffets in town. This elegant 2-month old British colonial restaurant designed by award-winning New York based designer, Tony Chi replaced the former Greenhouse. The setting is elegant, modern yet relaxed at the same time.

I was excited to try this restaurant as I have heard rave reviews about it. Somehow, the concept 'buffet' is very appealing to me as it satiates the desires of my inner gourmand.

The interior

Dining at Colony is akin to watching a theatrical performance where ambience, food and service combine seamlessly to create an unforgettable experience There are eight conservatory live kitchens where diners can watch chefs prepare the food à la minute, namely the ice bar, the grill and rotisserie, the steam basket, the wok, the tandoor, the fruit stall, the patisserie and the live dessert station. If you are looking for an interactive experience, this is the place to go to.

Colony showcases heritage cuisine, transporting diners back to the late eighteenth century where Singapore was founded.

The Ice Bar

Start your epicurean journey at the Ice Bar and indulge in an unending array of seafood on ice, black mussel flower crab, half shell crab, king crab leg, marinated live clams, New Zealand clams and poached live prawns.

Healthy salads

In addition, you can also tuck into an extensive array of salads, appetiser and cold cuts. I must say that I am quite impressed with the vast assortment of salads such as mesclun, baby spinach, romaine, avocado, beetroot and more.

Assorted sashimi

There is also a delightful spread of sashimi such as salmon, tuna, ebi, suzuki and more to tempt the palates of Japanese food aficionados.

The Grill & Rotiserrie Station

If you fancy meats, you must not miss the Grill & Rotisserie Station. It features a lovely selection of Asian and Western meats. If you have an inclination for Chinese-style meats, go for the char siew, pork belly, roasted duck or the fragrant chicken rice.

English style lamb cutlet with mint sauce

If your palate veers towards Western style meats, you will definitely enjoy the English style lamb cutlet with mint sauce, grilled pork loin and mini grilled beef steak. During this festive season, you can also look forward to honey baked ham with pineapple raisin sauce and roast turkey with cranberry sauce or giblet gravy.

The Steam Basket Station

From the steam basket, the signature item is the laksa with the hearty lobster balls. The gravy is aromatic, creamy and packed with flavour.

Yummy laksa

The best part is that lobster balls are used instead of the ubiquitous fish balls. Lovers of dim sum can satisfy their cravings for siew mai, hand pulled noodles, xiao long bao and har kow.

The Fruit Stall

What really impressed me was the Fruit Stall where you can select the fruits from the dazzling array and customise your own juices. There is a vast variety of fruits to choose from such as strawberries, blueberries, oranges, apples, pears and more. You can also select the restaurant’s specially concocted fruit juices if you are not sure how to customise your own juice.

The Wok Station

The Wok station did not really leave much of an impression for me. The highlights include Singapore chilli crab, braised vegetables lo-han style and seafood fried rice with XO sauce. The chilli crab sauce was a little too mild in flavour and lacked the ‘oomph’.

The Tandoor Station

📷

Naan with condiments

To experience the exotic flavours of India, visit the Tandoor station. Popular favourites include tandoori chicken, vegetable korma, mutton vindaloo, palak dal and assorted naan. Having naan with dal and tandoor chicken is just awesome!

The Bakery

For those who like breads, the bakery section with its extensive selection of freshly baked breads, sandwiches and muffins will definitely appeal to you.

📷

The Patisserie

To conclude the gastronomic experience on a sensational note, you must not miss the alluring assortment of rapturous desserts at The Patisserie, guaranteed to leave you spellbound.

📷

Tea Macaron

Tease your taste buds with tea macaron, crème brûlée, tiramisu, assorted Christmas log cakes, Christmas fruit cake, stollen, pistachio pear, poached pear with red wine, cherry kirsch dome, mont blanc, raspberry curd with figs and more. There is also a live dessert station where the chefs prepare the warm Christmas plum pudding à la minute. Everything tasted so good that I could not decide which dessert I like best.
