Unwind at Wood & Steel Gastrobar

Enjoying Singapore Sling

Located on the al-fresco Bridge Deck of Stewards Riverboat, Wood & Steel Gastrobar is the ideal place to chill out, catch up with friends or have a romantic dinner with your loved one. Enjoy the lovely view, serene ambience, soft caress of the refreshing sea breeze and the gentle rocking of the Riverboat while savouring your cocktail or indulging in savoury bites.

I remember organising a Singles event here about eight years ago. This gastrobar on the riverboat left a very strong impression as the setting was captivating - understated yet elegant. Those who are prone to motion sickness can approach the wait staff for ginger pills.

The philosophy here is that everything is meant to be shared, from food, to memories and the menu reinforces this with its selection of tapas, pizzas, pastas, contemporary grilled items and light bar bites.

A charming island bar takes centrestage featuring an extensive range of wines, spirits, cocktails and beers. There are also live performances on Fridays and Saturdays, making it the perfect place to unwind after a long week of work.

Nachos overboard

For starters, I recommend the nachos overboard ($10) - corn tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, chilli corn carne and melted cheese.

The chips were crispy and tasty and my favourite dip is the guacamole. The portion is generous too, sufficient for two to three diners.

Beer-battered fish

The beer-battered fish ($10) was fried to a golden brown hue and was delicious, especially with tartare sauce.

Salmon like you

For the mains, we had salmon like you ($26) and blue eyed boy ($26). The former was flavoured with citrus miso, lightly pan-fried, topped with sesame seeds and accompanied with asparagus and cherry tomatoes.

Blue eyed boy

The latter comprised pan-seared ribeye chunks served with crunchy carrot and celery sticks. I like the salmon as it is healthy with a delightful combination of savoury and tangy flavours. Great for the weight-conscious. The blue eyed boy tasted reasonably good with a heart-warming flavour, retaining a winsome bite.

Walnut brownie with vanilla ice cream

For a happy finale, go for the walnut brownie with vanilla ice cream ($10) or the apple crumble ($9). The brownie was topped with Mandarin oranges, vanilla ice cream and cherry. The Mandarin oranges accentuated the taste with light citrus notes, giving it a refreshing flavour.

Apple crumble

The filling of the apple crumble had a good combination of sweetness and tang, however, the crumble was not crumbly and buttery enough.

Overall,  the dining experience at Wood & Steel Gastrobar was good. The ambience is great, especially for those who do not mind the constant rocking of the boat.
