Roots Mediterranean is a new restaurant which opened about two month ago. Housed along Greenwood Avenue (where the former Donna Carmela Italian Restaurant was located) and just a few minutes away from Tan Kah Kee MRT Station, Roots Mediterranean offers authentic and delectable Mediterranean cuisine comprising Italian, Spanish, Greek and Lebanese delights.
The culinary team at Roots believes that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Therefore, the cuisine at Roots Mediterranean goes back to the roots and to the basics. Fresh ingredients and herbs are used to bring out the natural flavours of the food. At Roots Mediterranean, you can be assured of honest, rustic, wholesome and unpretentious cuisine.
The setting is cosy, inviting and spacious with brick walls and earthy tones and is ideal for casual gatherings with friends and family members.
To start your meal on a hearty note, I would recommend going for Spanish classics such as Papas Bravas (baked potatoes topped with the Spanish spicy dip - S$8) and Tortillas de Papas Y Queso Fundido (Spanish omelette with potatoes topped with melted cheese - S$8). The Papas Bravas are savoury and the taste is enhanced with the spicy dip prepared using hot smoked paprika, hot sweet paprika, olive oil, chicken broth and salt.
The Tortillas de Papas Y Queso Fundido is a traditional Spanish appetiser which consists of omelette with potatoes topped with melted cheese. The omelette, potatoes and melted cheese combine beautifully to create a burst of rich and creamy flavours, oozing heartiness in every mouthful.
The menu boasts an extensive selection of pastas including quintessential favourites such as Spaghetti Carbonara, Penne Arrabbiata, Penne Alla Siciliana, Tagliatelle Al Funghi Porcini, Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare, Lasagne Al Pesto and Moussaka. We tried the Spaghetti di Frutti Mare (S$28) which brims with seafood such as prawns, squid, clams and mussels.
The pizza selection consists of Classic Round, Red, Pink and White Pizzas. We had the Burrata and Parma (S$18), a simple white pizza topped with wholesome and fresh ingredients such as confit cherry tomatoes, burrata cheese, Parma ham and fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil.
Overall, Roots Mediterranean offers a pleasant dining experience for those who enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is pretty extensive so you can definitely find something you like. Prices are affordable too so you can indulge without burning a hole in your pocket.
Roots Mediterranean is located at 2 Greenwood Avenue, Singapore 289189. The restaurant opens daily from 11am to 11pm.
