Lose Weight, Eliminate Skin Problems and Prevent Balding in The New Year

It's the New Year! Time to set new resolutions and goals and achieve your dreams and aspirations. If you have been plagued by the extra pounds you've gained during the festive season, now is the time for you to get back in shape.

Have you ever wondered why some people do not put on much weight despite constant feasting while some others pile on the pounds even though they watch their diets. The reason is simple. In the recent years, there is an increased consumption of genetically modified wheat. The breakfast cereals and bran muffins that you consume during breakfast and pastas that you love so much are not really wheat but the transformed products of genetic research conducted during the later half of the twentieth century. If you are suffering from a big belly, receding hairline, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, acne and other skin problems, read on and you may want to consider eradicating wheat from your diet forever.

I used to think that wheat is a healthier alternative to regular cereals and pastas and would purchase whole wheat pastas and cereals, hoping that it can help me to stay trim and healthy. However, after reading ' Wheat Belly', a book written by 'Milwaukee-based American cardiologist and author of heath books, William Davis, I have decided to reduce my consumption of wheat. Over the past few months, I have seen a great improvement in my skin and my body. I do not feel bloated even though I eat generally more than most people.

Here are some facts that I have learned from the book and I would like to share this information with all of you.

-Wheat increases blood sugar more profoundly that table sugar.  High blood sugar provokes high blood insulin and when the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin in response to rise in blood sugar, diabetes develops. The Glycemic Index or GI is the nutritionist's measure of how much blood sugar levels increase  after food is consumed. Foods with high GI include bread, pastas, white rice, potatoes and tapioca. Wheat carbohydrate causes a greater spike in blood sugar, much more than ice cream, table sugar or a candy bar.

-Consumption of wheat also leads to production of inflammatory hormones such as leptin and visceral fat  results in estrogen production in both sexes. Females generally have high levels of estrogen till they reach menopause. The increased visceral fat on a female has been linked to increased risk for breast cancer. For men, elevated levels of estrogen can cause them to develop large 'men boobs' and an enormous belly. High visceral fat can also lead to arthritis.

-Wheat and other grains are the main culprits for making your PH balance lean towards acid. When your PH balance is acidic, your body will draw your calcium stores to neutralise these acids. Once your calcium supply is depleted, it will lead to weak bones. To keep your PH balance in an alkaline state, it is recommended to consume more fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans.

-Regular artificial wheat consumption can also lead to other serious diseases such as kidney problems, atheroclerosis, dementia, cancer, eye health, coronary heart disease and male erectile dysfunction. Other than eliminating wheat and maintaining a restricted intake of carbohydrates, it would be advisable to avoid deep-fried food and foods heated to high temperature for prolonged periods. As much as possible, it will be good to avoid well-done food and select raw or medium-cooked food.

-Wheat can lead to premature ageing of the skin, causing it to lose its elasticity and look dull and sallow and wrinkles will start to develop. Your hair will lose its lustre and start to fall. As the saying goes, your skin and hair are an outward reflection of your internal body processes. When you are healthy, your skin will look youthful and radiant, however, if you abuse your body through bad eating habits, it will show on your skin and hair. Acne is largely associated with diet. Japanese Okinawans and Kitavans of New Guinea lived on a diet of vegetables, fruits and fish, acne was virtually unknown among them. On the contrary, Americans who indulge in a rich diet of artificial wheat, animal protein and deep-fried food often suffer from bad skin problems.

So do you want good skin, lustrous hair and a fit body?

Say Goodbye to wheat and achieve a healthier, trimmer body and radiant, youthful skin in the New Year.

Cheers to a healthy lifestyle!
