'Tis the season to be jolly, and there is no better way to celebrate than with a delectable meal. This Christmas, Executive Chef Aira Piva at Roots Mediterranean has curated a scrumptious Christmas brunch for you to satiate your festive appetite and spend a gratifying afternoon with your loved ones. You’ll definitely be spoilt for choice as this menu features a tantalising selection of Spanish, Greek and Italian creations.
The brunch is split into 5 sections – ‘Tapas, Mezze and Antipasti’, ‘From the Slicer’, ‘Carving Station’, ‘Served on the Table’, and ‘The Sweet End’. I had the pleasure of savouring some of the highlights during the tasting session.
Our delightful journey commenced with an assortment of pastries and breads from the assorted bread basket including Sfogliatella, Pineapple Danish Pastry and more.
Next, Oysters with Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) were served to whet our appetite and tempt our taste buds. A dash of lemon juice added a refreshing taste to the plump, luscious and creamy oysters. Perfect with a glass of Prosecco or Chianti!
Another recommendation from “Tapas, Mezze and Antipasto” selection is the Octopus Carpaccio, comprising thinly sliced octopus topped with tangy tomatoes and olives, drizzled with olive oil, lemon juice and Italian herbs. A lovely harmony of different textures and flavours.
You can also help yourself to the ensemble of other appetisers including Prawns with Pineapple and Mango, Smoked Salmon with Traditional Condiments, Tuna Bresaola (Cured, Smoked and Dried Tuna), Greek and Fattoush Salad, Tzatziki and Hummus and Freshly Baked Focaccia.
From the Slicer, you can indulge in savoury Parma Ham with Rucuola and Cherry Tomatoes.
My favourite section is the Carving Station which features Wellington Fillet and Roasted Lamb Leg. The Wellington Fillet is a palate stunner with succulent beef tenderloin wrapped in a puff pastry and baked to perfection.
The buttery and crispy pastry provides a lovely contrast to the juicy meat inside.
The Roasted Lamb Leg was well marinated and I was besotted by the tenderness and the robust taste. The accompaniments such as potato wedges, tomato, onion and olives added colour and texture to the dish.
From the ‘Served on the Table’ section, we were awed by the glorious flavours of the Roasted Wild Range French Yellow Chicken, Truffle Butter and Roasted Potatoes. The skin was crispy while the flesh was succulent and moist. Served with carrots and roasted potatoes, every mouthful was satisfying!
Another noteworthy item from this section is the Pizza Lobster and Prawns, prettily assembled with seafood, tomatoes and herbs. Other enticing selections from this section include Tortellini in Brodo, Seafood Risotto and Spanish Seafood Casserole.
A Christmas meal will never be complete without festive desserts. For a sweet finale, tuck into a medley of Italian and Spanish cheeses from the cheese selection, Panettone with Tiramisu Cream and a plethora of sweets treats including Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse, Yoghurt Cake, Apple and Spelt Cake and more.
