It is vital to strengthen your immune system and keep your health in tip-top condition to cope with the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Whether you are working from home or in the office, you'll be pleased to know that the culinary team at Famous Treasure and Famous Kitchen have curated a special menu comprising traditional healing and nutritious ingredients to boost your immune system, strengthen your body, enabling you to fight infections and viruses.
Whet your appetite and build up your health with ‘Fight the Virus’ Nourishing Prawn Soup (抗病毒滋补虾汤-S$10 for 100 grams). Comprising of traditional spices used in Chinese and Indian cooking such as rasam, tamarind, ginger, cumin and garlic, it is believed to improve your overall wellbeing. Rasam, a South Indian spice rich in antioxidants and minerals aids digestion while Tamarind, a herb used in Indian and African cuisine prevents inflammation and enhances heart health. I find the combination of Chinese and Indian spices very refreshing. While some may find the taste of the broth a little strong, I personally like it as it is very tangy and appetising.
If you are a vegetarian, you can opt for ‘Boost Your Immunity’ Mushroom Platter (增强免疫蘑菇拼盘 -S$28++). The main ingredients for this dish are king oyster mushroom, black garlic and ginger. King mushroom is known to be packed with antioxidants and help in improving gut health and lowering cholesterol. Black Garlic reduces inflammation and prevents the development of cancer and diabetes while ginger contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to fight flu. This is an easy dish to enjoy and it is suitable for diners of all ages.
Fish, especially cod, is rich in protein and vitamins and minerals essential for healthy functioning of the body. The ‘Strengthen Your Internals’ Steamed Fish (加强体质蒸鱼 – S$18++ for 100 grams for cod, seasonal price for other fish), is steamed with cordycep flower, black garlic, tangerine, wolfberry and shredded ginger (with your choice of fish). Wolfberry, otherwise known as gogi berry, is an antioxidant-rich fruit commonly used in Cantonese soups. It is believed to strengthen the liver and kidneys and improve vision. Cordycep flower contains anti-ageing and anti-tumour properties and reduces fatigue. I like cod prepared in this style as the rich, delicate texture of the cod complements the sweetness of the wolfberries and black garlic. Tangerine gives its a refreshing, citrusy flavour while ginger neutralises the overall sweetness. Cordycep not only contains health boosting properties, it also gives the cod an interesting texture.
