Delightful Spanish Tapas at FOC Pim Pam

Enjoying the paella

Founded by the team behind the FOC restaurant at Hong Kong Street, FOC PIM PAM is a lively Tapas Bar & Restaurant with a distinct Barcelona flair, located in the quieter and laid-back corner of Orchard Road. FOC means fire in Catalan while PIM PAM means quick and easy. Inspired by the Spanish bodegas, it celebrates the vibrant tapas and wine culture of Barcelona with delectable food and sensational drinks.

The Bar area

FOC Pim Pam offers a more casual and fun concept in comparison to the flagship FOC restaurant at Hong Kong Street. With four distinct spaces such as a Tapas Bar, main dining room, private dining room and outdoor terrace, it seems a little more spacious than FOC.

Three weeks ago, my family had a Mother’s Day celebration at the restaurant and our dining experience was a fantastic one. True to Spanish culture, the ambience is warm, relaxed and convivial. Our dining experience commenced with some light bites from the Tapas menu.

Crab and Spinach Croquetas

The croquetas were deftly executed, crispy on the outside with a smooth, creamy and flavourful interior. My favourite was the Ham Croquetas (S$12++) which were savoury and delicious, bursting with goodness with every mouthful. The Crab Croquetas (S$12++) had a fresh, sweet taste which was also very palatable.

Ham and Mushroom Croquetas

The Mushroom Croquetas (S$10++) and Spinach and Pine Nuts Croquetas (S$10++) were also pleasant in taste, and are suitable for those who prefer a lighter taste.

Prawns Al Ajillo

Another winning creation was the Prawns 'Al Ajillo' (S$22). The prawns were sweet and succulent and pan-fried with garlic, chilli, olive oil, salt and sweet paprika and topped on ratte potato espuma. They were perfectly balanced with sweet, savoury flavours and just a slight hint of spice.

Patatas bravas

The Patatas Bravas (S$10++) were also another crowd favourite. The potatoes were meticulously sliced and deep-fried to perfection and accompanied with spicy salsa and garlic aioli sauce. The crisp texture of the potatoes, coupled with the creamy and spicy flavours brought a delightful sensation to my taste buds.

Open Tortilla

The Open Tortilla (S$14++) was heavenly. They juicy egg omelette arrived open-faced at the table with chorizo and cheese form before it was rolled. The cheesy, creamy and savoury goodness melted instantly in my mouth.

Seafood Paella

The Seafood Paella (S$35++) was my top choice. Cooked to the right consistency, each grain was al dente, well separated and retained a firm bite. The flavourful seafood broth added richness to the rice while the addition of spice gave it the extra punch. The best part was that it was topped with generous servings of fresh prawns, squid and scallops.

The Chocolate Forest

The desserts were spectacular too. The Chocolate Forest (S$16++) is a must-try for chocoholics. Prettily assembled, it was a divine combination of chocolate ice cream, white and dark chocolate cream and glazed hazelnuts. The fresh raspberries yoghurt custard, white chocolate passionfruit jelly and candied hazelnuts balanced the richness and accented the creation with fruity notes. It was also accompanied with a pipette of extra virgin olive oil and you can add it to neutralise the overall sweetness.

Spanish Torrija

The Spanish Torrija (S$10++) was another winning dessert, offering a refreshing twist from the usual French toast. Lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar, it was crisp on the outside, with a soft, cakey interior. When accompanied with vanilla ice cream, it brought about a wondrous explosion of delightful flavours.

Churros

Our finale dish was the complimentary cinnamon sugar-coated Churros served with decadent, dark chocolate sauce. It was crunchy with a melt-in-your mouth interior and the chocolate sauce was divine, hitting all the right notes.
