Classic English Afternoon Tea at The English House

Updated: Apr 4, 2019

Relishing Classic English Afternoon Tea at The English House

Savouring Afternoon Tea at The English House, by 3-star Michelin Chef, Marco Pierre White is a luxurious experience. Stepping into the restaurant is akin to being transported to an English home in the 1940s.

The interior

The entrance of the restaurant is surrounded by lush foliage while the interior is cosy with a touch of elegance. The walls are adorned with exquisite works of renowned British photographer, Terry O’Neill and framed cartoons by Raymond “Jak” Jackson, one of Marco’s favourite cartoonists. The restaurant abounds with artefacts and antiques from England, including a long table that used to grace the Rolls Royce boardroom. Marco’s concept was to introduce a ‘restaurant with rooms’ concept, housing a boutique hotel upstairs which will only be launched in mid 2019.

Classic English Afternoon Tea

The Afternoon Tea Set is served in a traditional 3-tier stand with savoury delights and sweet treats. Start your epicurean journey with a repertoire of classic British finger sandwiches such as Scottish Smoked Salmon with Fresh Horseradish, Roast Coronation Chicken, Finest Quality Ham and Homemade Piccalilli, Organic Egg Mayonnaise, English Watercress and Fresh English Cucumber. Ingredients are fresh and wholesome, making every bite extremely gratifying. My personal favourites are the Scottish Smoked Salmon with Fresh Horseradish and the Organic Egg Mayonnaise with English Watercress.

Freshly Baked Scones

The freshly baked Scones with Strawberry Preserves and Clotted Cream are absolutely divine, With a crisp outer crust and soft, slightly moist interior, every mouthful brings glee to my taste buds. The combination of Strawberry Preserves and Clotted Cream brings about a perfect harmony of sweet and tangy flavours.

I like the Orange Madeleines which are light, refreshing with citrus accents. The Lemon Cake has a pleasant citrusy taste while the Egg Custard Tart has a creamy, rich flavour. The Dundee Fruit Cake, a Scottish classic is dense with the lovely taste of sultanas, currants, almonds and dried fruit peel. Chocolate aficionados must not miss the decadent Chocolate Mousse, which is heavenly and leaves one yearning for more.
